How do you put the crayfish back into the water? I've been clicking away for a day now...

I clicked on the crayfish and then on the water.

The clue was: I had to enlarge the picture which was just too small thanks to my tiny screen.
Then I was able to click the right stuff and finally finish the treasure hunt.

Wait, do you have the crayfish in your inventory or is it still on the picture?

In my inventory. I have the rose, too.

Ah, okay. I just clicked the water just above the barrel and it left my inventory. That's all I can help with. Try clicking anywhere on the water until something works.

Edit: This seems to be never ending, now I'm clicking the ivy (right where it's circled in the picture) and getting nothing useful. I wonder what it is this time?
I've even tried clicking the rose for the different prompt and then clicking around on the ivy (to make sure the interaction has enough time to load and be processed because sometimes it's a little slow).

I agree with blobber that you might need to get cane before hunting for ivy leaf.

For the lever:

I'm stuck I can't pick up the "hammer" or planks. and I've been clicking away like a clicking witch.

Try to click the items in this order AFTEr you finished the dialogues with the birds.
