i don't understand how to even get started. it seems i need to fix the bridge but am unable to pick up nails or anything. i also don't understand where you find the inventory that everyone talks about.

You can't fix the bridge, but you can fix something else that'll help you get across the water. I think you need to pick up the materials in the right order, I know I tried to pick up the nails several times and it didn't work, but later I could pick them up and repair

You first need to finish(and listen to) the conversations between Raven and Magpie. Click the area(on the tree) right below them step by step(or use continue button). I'm not sure whether it is the area on the tree for everyone, but it seems true to me. I don't know why not exactly on the Raven and Magpie themselves. Then follow the steps we discussed above.

You click on the rose fence and get a message saying you need something to cut it. So you find the crayfish. It promises to help you if you can put it back to water. So you do. You cut the rose then put it back to water by clicking the grass near the stream. And for the safe place, I said in my last post. It's the hole on the tree where you got the key.

Thanks, Shely! Now I get it. I got a bit frustrated finding the three things and I just randomly clicked in random areas for that part. In essence, I skipped that finding three objects and got to the fighting wizard upto the last part.
