I've never been clear on this - are the burning Christmas trees bred only? Or can they be found in the garden, but they're just very rare? I'd like to know, so I can know if I should just take seeds from the wild, or if I should try breeding my own.

See this thread Christmas tree - question mark?
It would appear the the burning tree is now breed only, but it's not clear. From Kelandra's post it looks like It depends when nonnymouse and truelinor got theirs.

Thank you. I saw that thread, but it still wasn't entirely clear. It seems that they are breed only, but then again, at Halloween this year we were able to get very old Jack-O-Lanterns from new seeds in the garden. I guess with the burning trees it's pretty firm though.

nonnymouse and trulinor have burning trees from 2010 that are parentless.

this burning tree is from 2011 and was bred. i don't think anyone got a burning tree from the wild garden last year, so i'm guessing they were breed only.

this year, i'm not sure. if it's like the jack o lanterns, we would be getting last years alts from breeding, and 2010's from the garden. since we don't know, i'm going to balance bred and wild seeds about equally until the first batches of trees grow up. hopefully by then it will be a little more clear what is available to us this year and how to get it.

butcherbaby, the sense I can understand. The rule is very helping us. Each starting year has a definated way to get them. How will be the rule for one year more? We can no more know the right starting years. Therefore we was writing down the years.

Also this year the burning christmas tree is breed only.

Auch dieses Jahr kann der brennende Weihnachtsbaum nur übers Kreuzen erlangt werden.

I'm not seeing any either. Sometimes the site admins have to do something if the seeds stop dropping, which seems to happen during events occasionally. I think it's because people are taking them so fast that they can't repopulate as quickly.

Just for the record, my burning Christmas tree was given to me - I just remembered that. I wish I knew who gave it to me. ?(
