Happy New Year / Frohes Neues

  • Happy new year to everyone. A bunch of exciting things are planned for this year. First of all a new update just went live that once again makes sure the code-base follows modern standards and stays safe for everyone. Second I will be cleaning up the user database. Everyone that hasn't logged in for more then 3 years will get a 1 month and a 1 week reminder to login. After that 1 month is up the account will be deleted to free up server resources. Last but not least I am currently considering a new feature that is small and large at the same time. But I won't announce to much yet as it is heavily pending on getting a hold of an artist (the same old game) before I can finalize the plans.

Hope everyone is having a fantastic 2026 and here is to hoping to get a couple of new features out this year!

    ---------------------------------

Frohes neues Jahr euch allen.

    Approved the thread.
  • I'm grateful that Flowergame is still going and getting updates. I always find my way back to my Greenhouse to admire the beautiful plants. I wish to play more actively and see more plant species. Thank you for all the time and dedication you've placed in this game, fkrauthan! I hope everyone is having a wonderful New Year so far. :)

  • Well, I'm back. The twin hurricanes that hit Tampa Bay in late 2024 destroyed my computer (amongst other things). I moved out of Florida after that and am now back living in wild, wonderful West Virginia, where I grew up. I finally got settled and saved enough money to get a new computer. Playing on the phone just doesn't work for me. So now I'm catching up with my online games again. I'm so glad to see Flowergame still here. It's been such a calm space in my life for so long.

So good to see you back online! I had wondered what happened when I didn't see you on Xanje for a while! So sorry to hear about the troubles with the hurricanes. I can't imagine how hard that was to go through. I'm a bit less active on Xanje, but ifyou would like anything bred, just PM me there, I'm always happy to help out where I can - I did miss everything from like November '25 to May or so of this year. I'm full time caregiver for both parents who are nearing 90 and they've had pretty significant health problems so I had to step back from games for a while. But for anything except that gap, LMK and if I can breed whatever. <3

  • Thanks, Pounces. I'm getting back into gaming slowly. Not sure I'm going to take on as many as I played before. I have many friends now plus my sister and niece and we go do stuff, where in Florida all my friends moved away during COVID and I had no one, so I sat at home on the computer.

The hurricanes were very scary. First one flooded the underside of my trailer, but not the inside. Still, it took out the A/C unit. Then the second one came along less than 10 days later, which meant they cancelled my HVAC repair until after it hit. I got lucky and the house was still in one piece, but the 240V electric got knocked out in a lot of places by that one, and when they finally got it turned back on 3 months later they blew up my computer and a bunch of other stuff because they told no one they were coming so we could unplug things. I left because I just couldn't take one more big anxiety-producing thing happening. Florida is beautiful, but the storms are super scary.

I'm sorry your parents are unwell. When I lived in California I cared for mine as a solo caregiver for 9 years before they passed. It's hard on many levels, but I'm glad I got that time with them. Bless you and I hope you have a good support structure. If you need to vent, you can do it to me without judgement. There are feelings that are felt and experiences that only those who have done elder parent care really understand.

  • I totally get that, and I'm so glad to hear you've got a good support system now! It definitely makes life more pleasant. :) If you ever do pick up Xanje, feel free to hit me up. I don't play anywhere near as much, but I try to keep up somewhat lol!! My big games are this and DragCave though.

I can't even imagine how frightening those storms were! We had the tail end of a hurricane hit us when we were living in way deep south TX, down near Brownsville but that was just a Cat 1. I've lived in TX most of my adult life, but hurricanes are a whole different beast from big thunderstorms. They're the number 1 reason we didn't move to FL and came back to TX when we came back from Mexico.

Thank you for the kind words, I love my parents and am happy to be here for them but it can be challenging at times. Luckily I do have both of my sisters living close by and am able to take occasional breaks on weekends and evenings. <3

  • Yeah, a cat 4 and a former cat 5 that was a high cat 3 at landfall in 10 days was wild. Tampa Bay hadn't had a direct hit from anything stronger than a tropical storm in 100 years. The NWS categorized the flooding from Helene as a 1,000 year flood. Two couples in my co-op who thought it would be fun to stay and have a hurricane party during Helene ended up perched on the kitchen island of one of their houses praying that the water wouldn't rise any higher. They fled from Milton, thank goodness. The winds from Milton threw whole palm trees around and ripped the dome off the Rays' baseball stadium. I was a nervous wreck for months, so when my next door neighbor offered to buy me out for enough money to come back to WV and buy a condo outright I jumped at it.

I live in an area where it would take a 10,000 year flood to reach me. It's in the hills, so tornadoes don't go very far. We get thunderstorms, but not like those off the water in Florida. When the electric gets knocked out twice in two weeks by direct strikes from lightning so close it trips all your circuit breakers as well as exploding the transformer it's sort of scary, especially when two hurricanes come along a month later. My nerves had just had it. Florida is beautiful, but I just couldn't stay.
