Not to try to bring anyone down or anything, and I hope everyone else is having a happy Christmas, but my best friend passed away rather suddenly a week ago (she was healthy, then she suddenly got sick and died within a day), so... I'm not. Since she died on my birthday, as you might guess I'm feeling very sad this year.

But I hope everyone else is having a good holiday season. Christmas is my favorite time of year, but this year the lights and decorations aren't making me happy like they usually do.

No, fortunately I am not alone; I have my family around me. But I cry a lot right now, because my best friend was very important to me, and they all understand, fortunately.

That is so sad, Mia! When I was growing up, a family's house burnt down to the grown during the holidays. Only two members lived through the tragedy. It was so sad. There seems to be a lot of things like that that happen around the holidays, or maybe we just noticed things like that more at this time of year when we feel everyone should be happy and having fun. I think also of the shooting not too long ago of all those poor children and adults in CT. So sad.

Yes, it is good you have people around you who understand and are there for you.

I didn't know anything to answer, when I read that yesterday, but I don't want to omit saying "Merry Christmas!" to everyone.

I really didn't want to make anyone sad, and I'm sorry if my post inhibited anyone. I really do wish everyone a happy Christmas, as I wish it of myself as well. I am trying, and I am sometimes able to forget for a while; it is hard, but I am able to go on.

MiaSkywalker, and Bajka20, I understand your guy's grief. 3 years ago, my fiance died just before the new year and i took it really hard. I just want you to know, it does get better with time.

As my Granny Goose (favorite grandmother) used to say: "And this too, shall pass"

took me years to get it and believe it but after many years of my share of grief and heartache i have come to appreciate those words....
