Has the way the sorting of "newest" plants works changed?

Used to be if you chose to sort by "newest plants" you could easily see which variants grew from the seeds that just matured. Now it seems they are all mixed together. I had 4 pumpkins, but they're mixed with other plants that grew up earlier. It's very confusing.

What I think is going on is that "newest plants" used to sort by "finally grown" date and now they're being sorted by plant number. That means if I pick up a really old seed from the wild garden that when it grows it could be quite a ways down the list of plants. It doesn't really help you see if you got that variant you were after if it's buried somewhere in the 4th or 5th row.

Can we have the old sorting method back, please? This way is confusing to a little old lady.

I thought it was just me and my senile brain when I had mixed types of plants, but then when I had ONLY four pumpkins cause I was trying to get more breeding partners for my jack o lanterns before Hallowe'en I started realizing I wasn't going bananas. Then I started looking at what was in between what and it seemed the plant numbers were the key.

It's more likely server load. The more a server has to "serve up" at once, the more bandwidth it requires. That translates into money spent for hosting. If you can get by with a smaller server and a lower-bandwidth plan you can save quite a bit of money.

Filters would be totally awesome! If I could find my plants by species or event or release date or grown date that would be fantastic!!
