Are wild seeds (is this the correct term?) able to be found in the garden still? I was looking today and all the seeds I could find were bred ones. I did pick one up so I can breed the Marvel Fern in the future, but was just curious.
My other question, do some plants have different rarity for finding seeds?

Wild male ferns are available all the year around, marvel fern is a sesonal, you should pick up more male ferns so you could breed more marvel ferns next time

Oh, I do have some Marvel Ferns thankfully! I started playing more when they were active so I managed 3 this year. 
There are lots of variants on it though, so lots of breeding to do 
Thats why I tell you that you need a little more male ferns
I have tried to make it a habit that when breeding the ferns, if I fail to get the Marvel fern but instead get the male fern, to always raise it up for further breeding.
So do I !

Like you, I have also not seen a single wild fern seed the past two weeks I have been looking! Every single one I have clicked is a bred fern. Gotta be some wild seeds in the garden eventually, right? 
I keep hoping as well, but still no luck on any without parents. O.o I have grabbed up several with parents though, so I can attempt to get the Marvel Ferns that are breed only. I've had terrible luck, and just have had Male Fern offspring though. I'm considering waiting until next season to attempt further breeding. 
it could be that the marvel fern can't be bred yet because it's not time yet. I mean it won't be out until Halloween. But I don't know 100% either.
But the male fern is breedable all year (as far as I know)
What mostly confuses me is not finding parentless seeds for Male Fern. O.o All I see are abandoned ones in the wild garden. When I can I like to start with clean breeding lines - it's a tiny bit of a minor OCD thing for me. ^^;
Is it because there are numerous abandoned ones in the wild garden, so the game does not generate parentless ones? (This could make sense, I'm not sure though)

I think it's newer players trying to breed Marvels, and not realising they can't - so they dump them and try again,
The game does breed parentless ones; I've run through the pedigrees of all mine and there are several with no ancestors.

Yes, I think I bred 2-3 before I went to the wiki and discovered it was only available to breed in season. :3
Maybe I'll just grab them all up that have been bred and abandoned and hope that will help some parentless ones will show up once the others are all in a garden.
