A Canadian singer, who only sang in French won in 1988, that singer was Celine Dion, she now sings in English, but on Eurovision she sang in French and won btw ^,^
Canadian? I thought this was a European event....? *confused*

At that time she sang for Switzerland
That's interesting. Do you mean that Celine Dion once participated in Eurovision?
Yes, here http://www.eurovision.tv/page/news?id=2…for_switzerland
I was just saying that she won singing a French song, she is French/Canadian, this was before she is a super star
I'm pretty sure she still has a residence in Quebec
Well, thank you for that. I looked her up on YouTube and watched the song she sang at Eurovision the year she won. I didn't understand what she was singing about, but it was very pretty. She has a fantastic voice.
Resurrecting this thread because it's that time again! First semi-final just started.
This is gonna be interesting for me because this year I haven't actually heard any of the songs yet, except Estonian.
That time of year again, eh?
Yeah thanks for noticing! I can have a new playlist for drawing now. xD
EDIT: Anyone has preference(s) so far?
I fully support Estonia, of course. We have a really good song this year too.
Other than that, I like Italy, UK, Spain, romania and Belgium from those in the finals; Israel and Norway from today's lineup. It's sad Belarus and Macedonia didn't advance.
Even if the contest is held in Austria this year, I couldn´t care less about it. I haven´t seen any shows or songs yet or know who`s in the finals.
But I like that Australia is a guest of honour this year.
Grand final right now!
Place your bets. Who wins tonight?
Haven't got the idea yet. I'm just curious...if Australia wins, will the venue be there next year? Then it's literally out of Europe...
And one more question, do they always hole live contest for each contest (e.x. semi-finals)? Or each country just submit their songs/videos online?
EDIT: Well..... I just realised that what it said 21:00 tonight was local time for Austria. And it's one hour ahead of mine......orz
They said that if Australia win they can pick any country in Europe to host it for them.
I like the Swedish entry and the larger lady (Serbia possibly) best so far.
So far I like Slovenia's and Greece's performance. But for the song itself, I think I like Wars For Nothing and In the name of love.
My favourites (asides from the one I can't vote for) are UK and Romania.
All of the contests are live. It's actually a rule that all singing has to be live. Music used to be live too - the host had to provide an orchestra, but nowadays they allow recorded music.
So.. every country participated will vote?
Yup! So this is going to take a while, there are 40 countries this year.
After last years win, Austria made the last place this year (once again). But no wonder with a mainstream cuddly-song like that. At least Germany shares our sad fate.
But yay for Australia's 5th place.
So, who won?
Sweden won, with Russia second and Italy third. Personally I think Italy's the best out of these three, but whatever. Sweden's really good too.
Estonia came 7th, which is good, all things considered.
