What froglady said^. I think if it were a small subscription, many would be willing to do it. I would once I have income again; heck, if it's small enough, I might even do it now. I don't care strongly about the ads (I don't find them annoying at the moment), but I would do it to support the site, since I really enjoy this game. I would consider it a small price for the enjoyment it provides me.

I think the "easy-click to water" option is a good idea as a second tier, for those who simply want something a bit easier. For many it would be an incentive to be able to avoid the multiple clicks.

I've seen that before, too. It's a little disconcerting, because it doesn't allow me to keep track of which ones' snails I've removed.

I get around the problem by control-clicking so it opens in a new tab. Then I can keep track better. I don't know why, either, although I would suspect something in the way it is coded.

I just found this really cool moonstone tinsel fail on the AP. I know a few people collect tinsel fails, and this one does have a pretty lineage.

The links only last 48 hours. Is there anyone who hasn't taken it for a while who is interested in helping George? I've already done it once, but I'll take it again if it helps keep things going.

There are many event plants that have breed-only variants, but I didn't list those, because those are event plants. I was only trying to list non-event plants. (Although I did mention the Marvel Fern, which is an event plant.) I did miss several, although idril caught those. There may also be one or two that neither of us thought of, and someone else will remember.

The idea of breed-only variants didn't come into the game until about a year ago, so the older plants generally don't have breed-only variants.

Btw, to get the parentless biting dandelion, you have to make your garden "friendly" to dandelions by raising a bunch of them from the wild. Then you'll get a message and a gift from the post pixie thanking you for having a garden friendly towards dandelions. Many people think of them as weeds and don't want them, though, so don't want to go through that effort.

You're right to distrust them, blobber. I've heard things about how they share their data out. For instance, even if you mark your page "private" so only friends can see it, if you make a post, and someone shares it, guess what? Everyone can see it, not just your friends.

A woman in San Diego got fired from her job about a year ago, because someone in Minnesota was offended by a post she made. Since the San Diego woman's page and post were both private, she thought she was safe. But someone she knew shared the post out, and other people saw it, without her permission.

That's the sort of thing that ticks me off, and it's why no one online knows my real name.

You'd know if you don't have a variant, because you'll have a question mark in your compendium for that seed.

Roses also have a couple of breed-only variants - the white with black, and the white with purple.

The Marvel Ferns have two breed-only variants: pink and yellow.

I *think* one of the Flaming Katies might be a breed-only variant, but I'm not positive.

One of the Grape Hyacinths is a breed-only variant.

As far as I recall, those, and the ones mentioned earlier, are the only plants with breed-only variants, other than event plants.

You are correct for every number ending in 1 EXCEPT if it ends in 11. It's because if it would be a number like "twenty one", you wouldn't say "twenty oneth", so you'd say "twenty first". However, in the case of 11, since it is "eleven", you would say "eleventh" rather than "elevenst".

The same would go for numbers ending in 2 or 3. In the case of "twenty two", it would be "twenty second", therefore 22nd, because you would never say "twenty twoth". However, for twelve you wouldn't say "twelvend", therefore it's "twelfth" (the v is even replaced with an f, go figure). And "thirteen" wouldn't become "thirteenrd" but instead "thirteenth", although every other number ending in 3 would have the rd at the end. So essentially just numbers ending in teens are affected. It's entirely up to you; most people here aren't that picky, and people just do as they like. Sometimes when I breed for the breed-only variants I try to make matching parents, and other times I deliberately don't want the parents to match. It's just at my whim.

Actually, that DOES cause them to lose money when someone uses an ad blocker. Or at least, they're not getting the revenue the ad should generate.

Question for the admins, then - if we click on ads occasionally, will that help you at all? I'd be glad to do something like that to help you out. I don't have income at the moment to be able to help with the site (sorry - I'm a poor starving graduate student right now!), but I'd like to help in other ways if I can.

I do understand if you need to do something to generate income to keep things running. I think there were suggestions at one point a couple of years back, like paying players get an extra pot or can do something once a day to speed up growth. There ARE people willing to donate for those reasons. I wouldn't be able to, but I wouldn't mind if someone else could do it.

That's why I prefer using s/he instead. That's also why to me, at least, saying "it" for the pixies would be acceptable. I can, however, see others having a problem with it, even though I don't. But they ARE pixels, after all. Pixel pixies. Not living things that would actually care.

Because the programming might be problematic for them changing the gender depending upon the image (which I'm sure is randomly generated), then it's up to whoever programs the site to decide about the wording. Yes, TJ specifically stated in that thread that they won't be able to breed with each other, that's why they refused. As Idril said, they're only meant to create avatars with other dragons.

I'm indifferent to being able to have three rather than two on my scroll, but since I think they're pretty (they're PURPLE, which is my favorite color - I have a bias towards purple flowers and dragons), I certainly don't object to being able to have three. If I can ever summon a second one, which hasn't happened yet.

I was very happy to be able to breed the first hybrid right off the bat. I'm looking forward to being able to have as many different hybrids on my scroll as possible.

And I suspect that's why TJ is allowing three per scroll. Some users feel their dragons need to be monogamous (they're pixels, so I personally don't see the point), so the only way those users could be able to breed all three different kinds of avatars is if they are allowed three guardians on their scroll.

Actually, using "they" or "them", while commonly done on the internet, is NOT grammatically incorrect. Correctly, it should be he/she or him/her. But it looks awkward, and people don't like doing it, so they usually use "them" when they want to hide the gender of a character in a story, or when they don't know the gender of an individual. But because "they" and "them" is plural. It is NOT correct. Ever.

"It" would be more correct or, as used to be commonly done, using "one". Because the site was translated from German to English for those of us who speak English, "one" wouldn't have been considered. (I don't think any non-English languages use it.) But here's an example.

That's a sentence where you don't know the gender of the individual, or where the gender is irrelevant. But very few English speakers know about this rule, so very few do it.

Yes, I am VERY picky about my own grammar and I notice whenever people use it incorrectly, although I rarely correct others because it can seem rude and insulting to do so all the time. (Don't get me started on when "less" and "fewer" should be used, or the various "lay", "lie", "lain", etc. And the confusion between "lose" and "loose" or "lightning" and "lightening"! Those are amongst my pet peeves!)

I agree with this! While some of the new features sound fun, I really hope we don't end up with something where those who pay can get flowers that others can't. That's why I've never joined certain sites, and why I quit sites like Neopets. While I don't mind buying something occasionally, at the moment I'm going back to graduate school so don't have a job. I'd rather have ads on the site and even view active ads to help you out, but I can't afford to pay a monthly fee.
