Fredsnail, it's easier on LN and myself if you use the "code" function to put your code in. To do this the easy way, click the "source" button when you're replying. Then in the places where you would enter the view code, click the button that shows "< >" on it.Put your code between the two parts that say "code" on them, and then when you make that post, it will allow us to see the view code directly.

Otherwise what I have to do is quote you, do a reply, click source, then copy the code, then put that copied code into the post that I'm editing, all of which is a bit more work.

If that's too confusing, then don't worry about it. I would rather you post than not, even if I have to do it the slightly harder way.

LN: My recommendation in that case would be to reserve the entire first page if you can. That way you'll have plenty of room to store whatever information you need. (And no one will mind starting their posts on the second page, I think.)

Edit: So far the experiment is looking good, and it appears for the most part that the variants are pretty even. There do seem to be slightly more blues and blacks than other variants, and slightly fewer snail and purple variants, but that can change. I just hope that I personally get at least one pink - I only had one of each of the bred-only variants before this started, and I'd like at least one more of each color. :)

Edit 2: Ok, I was wrong about the snail variant. I just counted all of them, and this is what we have so far (in adults):

    Blue 14
    Red 9
    Purple 3
    Pink 6
    Green 6
    Black 11
    Snail 6

With the rose, both bred-only variants came out at the same time as the others. In fact, I think that might have been the first flower that had two bred-only variants right off the bat, which caused a bit of confusion at first. Those two variants can be extremely tricky to get, too - there are so many variants, that you can breed for quite a while before you get the variant that you're waiting for.

Most plants that have a bred-only variant started out with them, but a few were added later. It's hard to remember which ones they were, but there are a few that I remember for certain where all variants came out together: hyacinth, fuchsia, flaming katy, and grape hyacinth were all released at once, I believe. (Note that the flaming katy has two bred-only variants, and only one parentless variant, which is, I think, a departure from most of our other plants.)

Holiday plants, however, are MUCH trickier. For instance, the bunnies weren't even breedable until last year (I think it was last year), so the fact that there are bred-only variants, I don't know if that means we were unable to get those at all other than during their release year (which I think MIGHT be the case), or if that was simply changed later.

Then, thank you, Tawanda! Whether as a mate for the one LN gave me, or a mate for the one I bred, depends entirely upon what it genders. (I influenced it, but who knows?) And it also depends upon if it refuses. (In which case, I breed my pair again, and hope for better luck!)

Thank you very much! I will be glad to give you a child once I get one, if you'd like.

LN, that's fine! I like both breeds, but I would have trouble getting CB ice dragons to be able to continue the stair. Water dragons are much easier to get.

It's sometimes a little exasperating when I want to continue a stair that was created with a holiday dragon, and I don't happen to have a CB of that holiday dragon. The first shimmer I was given, the person who gave it didn't have the right holiday dragon that was in the stair. I didn't mind that she had to use another breed, but I can definitely see drawbacks to using rare dragons (particularly holidays) as the stepping stone breed. When my best friend wanted to breed her prize tinsel, she was originally going to use a holiday dragon, but I convinced her to use something more common.

Shely, thank you for offering. I do need a male gold shimmer stair in order to make my double fishtail have all three shimmer colors. The female bronze shimmer in our double fishtail is mine; the male bronze shimmer in our fishtail is LN's. The sad thing is, all of my gold shimmers are females, with female stair lines. :( I would love one from the other (non-ice) line, actually. It would be harder to find ice CB dragons than water dragons. Would you like anything in exchange?

LN: Because I think that checker coloring is beautiful, I would love it. But I have a third gen from you already, so I wouldn't want to take it if someone else wants it too.

Ok, got all of them through Shelybear's.

LN, I suspect you'll have more luck with holiday plants like this, because people are focusing on them. The other plants may take longer, because not as many people will focus on them. I've done three batches, and will breed at least one more batch, presuming we have time. But other plants you may not get quite as excited of a helpful user base. :)

LN: I know what you mean! I have a gold shimmer that someone here gave me (you, maybe?) with a short lineage, so I'm working on making it longer. But I already had a 6th gen of that other, and it was quicker to make it a 7th, so I did that one first. Oh, and you're right - I do hope they don't refuse! If they do, I think I'll be crushed.

I need to try to remember to continue the 5th gen, even though it seems that usually my shimmers and tinsels don't want to breed, or else they want to breed the other dragon. :( (Just as I have been TRYING to get you a third gen tinsel from the one my friend gave me, but he is being stubborn, and refuses to breed a tinsel!)

Oh, that does look nifty! The only thing that would have been better is if I'd been able to combine a gold shimmer line into it. Then it would have had all three shimmer colors. Unfortunately, I didn't have a gold shimmer line that would work, although I might be able to build one up eventually.

I think I also have a lot more bronzes and even golds than silvers! But that's because the first silver shimmer I was gifted had a spiral lineage, which was a real pain to deal with. You can't breed them into these fishtail and arrowhead lines, either, sadly. But I'm sure the original breeders didn't have that in mind when they started those lineages....

And yes, I will try to give you a silver if they cooperate with me. Which they don't always do. :)

Actually, I think 50 is sufficient. It's pretty overwhelming the fact that not one was one of the other two variants. I just don't remember the math to figure it out. (Although I could ask my Dad - he's a statistician.)

But sometimes more isn't better. When my father was in biology, before he became a statistician, he worked for a researcher. They did a set of 100 experiments, of which every single one turned out a particular way. The researcher told them to do it again, with 100 more. When they did it for the next hundred, all of those turned out exactly the same way. The researcher told them to do 100 more. My father got angry, because even then he knew statistics, and knew that was unreasonable. If even ONE had turned out a different way, he could see doing more experiments, but the results were too overwhelming.

So, I think 50 is enough, really. Maybe do more, IF you have time after getting all the experiments done that you want. And that way others will stay interested and help you. :)

I use different avatars in different places, depending upon the place. Not that I bother to keep up with any forums, besides here and the Sims forums. I'm MiaSkywalker pretty much everywhere, except for some reason DC.

And I LOVE Jedi's new Avatar! Absolutely hilarious! Maybe not sexy-awesome like Dean, but I laughed out loud when I saw it!

My mother also plays video games and she's in her late 70s. (Not sure her exact age, she only mentions it on her birthday.) Only the women in my family are gamers, although when we were kids, my brother played pinball machines and then later pay video games far more than I did. My father doesn't understand the attraction of internet and video games at all.

I often use a male avatar for two reasons: 1) I don't necessarily want other players knowing that I'm female (particularly if it is a war/strategy game), and 2) I like looking at guys more. :)

My mother usually uses female avatars because I think she identifies with them; I use male avatars because I prefer to fantasize about them. ;)

It was confusing with Jedi at first, because the user name she picked was gender neutral. Now we know, so it's all good. :)

I've got four more for your experiment:
