Then surely that's against the spirit of the game. I like your idea. I'm sure there are lots of people (like me) who missed out on something and don't care whether it's been bred or not.

Yes that's it. It's quite hard to see in the wild garden. Look for the little purple bit. I didn't realise it was a seed until I got 'unknown seed' on mouseover.

I don't think anyone haa a complete collection of Christmas roses because just after they were introduced all the event plants became available and people were concentrating on them. The Christmas rose is available all year round.
In your Settings you have the option to arrange in Compact Grid (mine) or Classic List.

This is the seed:

When you get an extra seed from the Post Pixie you're allowed to have four seeds, until one sprouts, they you will have three again. You don't need to abandon anything.
If you don't have an Atrium or WinterGarden yet, I'm fairly sure the pots etc. will appear in one of them as decorations. I don't think you'll lose them.
Maybe someone else can confirm that.
