Tabletop or pen and paper requires people to actually meet... even though it is possible to play via the internet using chat software and a special program to show maps and stats.

There's a trading card game too and some tabletop games.
I started palying with 1st edition back in the late 80s. It was rather simple and easy to learn and adventures whre mostly dungeon crawls. Up to the 4the edition which is coming to an end it came to be very very complicated. I have over 20 rules books and sourcebooks.
Rules are very much like in computer rpgs which originally took their rules from pen and paper games.
You have things like dexterity, constituion etc, talents were You can get points for and You usually roll a 20 sided dice.
I'm not good at explaining, sorry.
With our style of playing, we concentrate more on story telling and character development that on fighting etc.

I meant desktop like in some people sitting togewther at a tabele and playing.. ah.nno.. tabletop would be the right word I guess. I did rping via computer some 10 years ago in a fantasy wrestling fed, but usually I have a stack of bocks full of rules and one or more people sitting around *g*,

@ Idril: DSA is still very much alive, though maybe not as popular as 10 years ago. Seems for most its still a beginners game, which I don't think it is. At the moment they are starting 5th edition beta. I'll probably stay with 4the edition.... too expensive buying everything new and learning new rules.
I've been playing from 1987 off and on since 1st edition. Occasionally another game but I alway ended up with DSA again *g*-

And as to the topic of this thread, My nickname is the name of one of my roleplaying characters for DSA , if anyone knows that game.
His name is Corvino Perval. He is a dark battlemage from the university of Al'Anfa, the lover of the patriarch of that city - the highest priest of Boron, the god of dreams and death. Apart from that he is not as bad as it sounds.*g* he is vegetarian, loves books and nice clothes and has an extremely dry sensew of humour.
